 2018 Preview 


       Sand Rock completed the 2017 season with a 9-3 record. With their 6-1 region record and a second place finish in Class 2A region six, the Wildcats earned a spot in the playoffs in 2017. Sand Rock reached the second round of the playoffs before falling to Lanett by a score of 41-16.

       Since 2010, Sand Rock has gone a combined 53-34. Their 61.0% winning percentage ranks 17th in Class 2A over the past eight seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Sand Rock has managed to compile a record of 167-100. Their 62.0% winning percentage ranks 13th in Class 2A and 77th in the AHSAA. The Wildcats have been successful on the football field with twenty-two winning seasons during this time.




       The Wildcats are led by head coach Steven Chesnut who is entering his fourth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 25-9 over the past three seasons at Sand Rock. Under his direction the Wildcats have qualified for the playoffs a total of two times. They have not won a region crown with Coach Chesnut.

       Coach Chesnut's overall record as a head football coach in three season stands at 25-9 (73.5%).

       The Sand Rock Wildcats will play in Class 2A region eight during the 2018 season. Following realignment, the Wildcats remain in 2A but move from region six over to region eight.

       The Wildcats should be in contention for a playoff spot in region eight this season. They will be looking to gain an advantage by hosting a first round postseason game.

       The Wildcats open the 2018 season at home against non-region opponent Gaston on Friday, August 31 at Russell Jacoway Stadium. Last year the Gaston Bulldogs finished with an overall record of 1-9 and in seventh place in Class 2A region six.

       Sand Rock and Gaston have met a total of 40 times on the football field. The Wildcats have a 22-18-0 record against the Bulldogs. They last met in 2017 with Sand Rock winning by a score of 40-0.
